When should rock salt and grit be spread?

The optimum time to use rock salt is before a frost or snow is forecast, as this will then help to prevent the ice forming on the ground and prevent snow from settling.

Rock salt can also be spread on top of snow after it has settled to help the snow melt or weaken the structure allowing it to be moved much more easily.

What are the best methods to spread rock salt

Rock salt can be spread manually using a shovel or a scoop, it is also a good idea to wear gloves. The rock salt should be distributed evenly over the surface area. We recommend spreading between 10 – 15 grams of rock salt per square metre to prevent ice and frost forming. If snow is forecast, increase this amount to 20 – 40 grams of rock salt per square metre.

De-icing Salt 25 Kg bag

Purchasing our white salt in a bulk bag is the best way if you are looking to economically cover larger areas such as car parks.

White salt is a premium option offering powerful de-icing in the toughest of conditions. Ideally suited for clearing areas of snow or ice with high footfall such as shopping centres and hospital car parks. White Salt does not contain clay which helps reduce the need for cleaning floors as people enter buildings.

Granulated to work with your spreading solution and treated with an anti-caking agent making it suitable for long term storage so it is ready to use when you need it most.
