Pleiospilos nelii in 8.5cm Pot
- The Pleiospilos nelii commonly known as Split Rock is a dwarf succulent that closely resembles the stones where it grows in its natural habitat and is a perfect example of mimicry. Mimicry occurs when a plant evolves to resemble something around it, creating camouflage to help it blend in. Split Rock plants flower once a year, with a warm yellow-orange daisy-like flower with skinny petals.

Light Required
Split Rock plants do best in direct sunlight indoors. They should ideally be on a windowsill in a South or West facing window that receives at least 3-4 hours of direct sun, and is very bright the rest of the day.

Watering
Split Rocks tend to need a bit less water than other types of succulents. The best way to water is to use the soak and dry method and allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. During the Winter water more sparingly and prevent over-watering as this can cause the plant to burst or rot.

Best Growing Conditions
Since Split Rocks are slow growers, re-potting should only happen once every 3 to 5 years. To do this, simply select a new pot with drainage holes that is slightly bigger than the current growing pot.
