  • Strawberry Honeoye, a perennial favourite, hails from Geneva, New York, and has held sway over the commercial strawberry market for over thirty years. This cultivar is celebrated for its bright red, large, and perfectly spherical fruit. The berries are remarkably firm, offering a burst of the rich, traditional strawberry flavour that many people recall fondly. Though excellent for fresh consumption, these berries are particularly prized for jam-making, owing to their strong flavour and appealing texture. Honeoye strawberries are known for their abundant harvests and impressive disease resistance, making them a reliable choice for home gardeners.

  • This variety typically produces a concentrated crop over three to four weeks, usually from mid-June to early July. Honeoye does particularly well in cooler climates and is noted for its vigorous runners, which appear after the fruiting season, allowing the plants to spread quickly. They're well-suited for garden beds, raised beds, and even grow bags.

Plant Strawberry Honeoye in full sun in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Water regularly during flowering and fruit development, and feed with a high-potash fertiliser to encourage strong yields. Allow runners to develop if you wish to increase plant numbers, or remove them to concentrate energy on fruit production.
