  • Allium Gladiator or 'ornamental onion' is a statuesque, herbaceous perennial known for its striking globe shaped flower heads. Each sphere is packed with hundreds of starry, lilac purple florets and blooms from late Spring into early Summer. These impressive flowers attract pollinators, making them a beneficial addition to wildlife-friendly gardens. Growing up to 150 cm in height with flower heads reaching 15-20 cm across, they add dramatic interest and structure to garden displays.

  • Plant Allium Gladiator bulbs in Autumn or early Winter in fertile, well-drained soil, ideally in full sun. Space them about 20cm apart and bury to a depth around three times the bulb height. Water thoroughly after planting and add mulch or compost to improve soil structure and drainage. Once flowering finishes, remove spent blooms and allow the foliage to die back naturally to support bulb strength for the next season. Hardy in the UK, they’ll return year after year with minimal care.

  • Perfect for borders, beds, or large patio pots, Allium Gladiator creates height and drama when planted in groups or dotted among other perennials. Pair with ornamental grasses, low growing perennials, or late Spring bulbs for a layered effect. Their bold flowers are also long lasting when cut, making them ideal for indoor floral arrangements.
