  • Trailing Begonia also known as Pendula Begonias or hanging begonias are dazzling tuberous perennials that will grow to petaled flowers that contrast against dark green foliage. This Summer flowering plant is loved by pollinating insects, in particular bees and butterflies and popular in UK gardens blooming from June to October. Begonia add colour and impact wherever planted growing up to a height of 30 to 40 cm, with a spread between 30 and 60 cm. Please note that quantities and varieties may vary depending on availability.

  • These low maintenance, easy to grow Begonias are perfect for growing in hanging baskets, containers or pots for the garden, patio or balcony but also work well in borders, cottage gardens and low maintenance gardens. Begonia tubers will provide a show all Summer and can be lifted, stored and replanted again the following year. Lifting them should take place before the first frosts, ideally mid Autumn. A light frost won’t cause too much damage but leaving it too late in the season can damage the plant.

  • If you are not ready to plant bulbs now, then store them in a cool, dry, frost free, well ventilated location. A garage, shed, loft or cupboard are ideal. Open the paper bag to allow air to circulate round but leave the bulbs in their bags until ready to plant. Just make sure mice or other rodents can’t get access to them. Keep an eye on your bulbs while in storage, if they are showing signs of going soft, it's best to get them planted before they deteriorate any further.

Begonias are sensitive to the cold, so start growing them indoors or harden them off before planting outdoors. When ready to plant outdoors through Spring depending the temperature we recommend outside in May onwards. Plant these tubers with their hollow side up, 2.5 cm deep, 15-20cm apart in fertile well draining soil in a sheltered area that gets full sun to partial shade. After planting they can be watered as often as is needed. Soak well when watering to reach the whole root system.
