- Cat grass is any grass that is grown specifically for cats, usually indoors. It may be grown in a dish from which the cat chews the grass directly, or just added to cat food.
The plant is best placed in bright, indirect light. This makes most homes, offices, desks and window sills ideal. If conditions allow, you could also place this plant on the floor due to its cat-safe nature.
Only water your cat grass once the top of the soil dries to prevent soaking your plants. Overwatering can lead to mold.
Grow Hordeum plants in small pots from successive sowings. Once used, replace the chewed plants with a fresh pot of seedlings to provide a constant supply. Later in the season, cut back any taller growth to promote fresh new re-growth. If planted outdoors as an ornamental grass, grow in any fertile, well drained soil in full sun.
