• Wisteria sinensis ‘Prolific’ often known as Chinese Wisteria is famous for its free-flowing habit. This vigorous deciduous climber, as its name suggests, can grow to heights of between 8 and 12 metres. This lovely Wisteria plant produces an abundance of very fragrant dense hanging racemes of blue-violet flowers from its twining anticlockwise stems during late Spring and early Summer and is ideal for growing in a variety of gardening settings.


• Wisteria is ideal for climbing up a sunny wall, pergola either from the ground or a container. It likes to grow in moist well draining soil, in a sunny or semi-shaded area that gives the plant shelter during the early Spring. Wisteria buds can suffer damage by hard Spring frost if planted in too open an area.

Light Required Full sun to partial shade

Watering Moderate watering in moist but well drained soil.

Best Growing Conditions Plant in a sheltered position, if possible a west or south facing area of the garden. Prune twice a year to get the best growth and results, approx. Jan- Feb and Jul - Aug.
