Winter Planting
The red baron is a variety of red onion which has won an RHS Garden Merit Award. It is a firm favourite year after year with gardeners, it is known to have a stronger flavour than other types of onions which is perfect for cooking with or if you a stronger flavour in a salad.
- A mid-late maturing variety
- Firm, globe-shaped bulbs with a beautiful, blood-red skin and red-rimmed flesh inside.
- When planted early, the bulbs can come out quite large.
- Plant January - April, Winter to early Spring
- Harvest onions in early Autumn, August to September, a week or two after the leaves begin to turn yellow.
- This listing is approximately 500 grams, due to each onion varying in weight the total may not be exact.
- Store in cool dark spot with good ventilation if not ready for planting now.

Best Growing Conditions
Plant onion bulbs with the tips just showing above the soil, 10 cm apart with 20 cm between rows. (Closer spacing will produce smaller mature onions) Protect during early growth if you have squirrels or pigeons in the area. Choose a dry day to loosen them from the ground with a fork.
