Flowering: winter

  • Amaryllis Royal Red, with its large, sumptuous crimson blooms, a classic and elegant subtropical bulb, can transform any space. These flowers, when clustered together on sturdy, upright stems, command attention.

  • This specific variety boasts double blooms, intensifying the already vibrant colour with added depth and richness. Renowned for its long-lasting flowers, Amaryllis Royal Red brings warmth and energy to indoor environments, particularly during the colder months.

  • Amaryllis is an excellent option for gardeners of all experience levels, as it's one of the easiest bulbs to grow indoors. Royal Red's striking red flowers and robust nature make it ideal for a prominent location in the living room, a conservatory, or even a sunlit windowsill.

  • Light Required
    Light Required

Amaryllis need plenty of light to flower. They need to be kept out of harsh, direct light, but if they are too shaded it will impact flowering.

    Watering
    Watering

Once your amaryllis is growing, water from the top using tepid tap water and never let the plant sit in a saucer of water. Continue to water the plant after its finished flowering if you intend to store the bulb.

Once flowering has finished cut off the flower stalk 5-10cm above the bulb - don't cut off the foliage. Water when the surface of the compost is dry and feed regularly with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Usually the best thing to do is keep watering it through the summer and in autumn stop watering and move to a dark, dim spot. Allow it to dry out for a few months so that the foliage wilts and dies back. In November bring it back in to the light and start watering again. Old foliage should be removed though take care not to cut any new shoots off. In a few weeks a new flower shoot will appear and flower just in time for Christmas.
