  • Trailing begonias, also called pendula begonias or hanging begonias, are truly eye-catching. These tuberous perennials produce blooms that pop against their dark green leaves. A summer favourite, they're a magnet for pollinators like bees and butterflies, and they're a common sight in UK gardens, flowering from June through October. These beautiful begonias bring vibrant colour and a real presence to any space, reaching heights of 30 to 40 cm and spreading between 30 and 60 cm.

  • These begonias, known for their minimal upkeep and straightforward cultivation, are ideal for hanging baskets, containers, or pots, whether in a garden, on a patio, or a balcony. They're also well-suited for borders, cottage gardens, and any garden where low maintenance is a priority. Begonia tubers will bloom throughout the summer, and they can be lifted, stored, and replanted the next year. It's best to lift them before the initial frosts, ideally in mid-autumn. A light frost shouldn't be a problem, but delaying planting too long can harm the plant.

  • If you're not ready to plant bulbs just yet, store them somewhere cool, dry, and frost-free, with good ventilation. A garage, shed, attic, or cupboard works well. Leave the bulbs in their bags, but open the paper bag to let air circulate. Just make sure mice or other critters can't get to them. Keep an eye on your bulbs while they're stored. If they start to feel soft, it's best to plant them before they get any worse.

Best Growing Conditions Begonias are sensitive to the cold, so start growing them indoors or harden them off before planting outdoors. When ready to plant outdoors through Spring depending the temperature we recommend outside in May onwards. Plant these tubers with their hollow side up, 2.5 cm deep, 15-20cm apart in fertile well draining soil in a sheltered area that gets full sun to partial shade. After planting they can be watered as often as is needed. Soak well when watering to reach the whole root system.
