Hydrangea macrophylla is one of the best hydrangeas available for UK gardens. This stunning blue hydrangea offers a long season of interest and is ideal for adding a splash of colour. It can be used as a standalone garden feature on a patio or balcony, for planting at the front of a border or for lining the edges of a path.

Grow Hydrangea macrophylla in moist but well draining soil in full sun to partial shade, sheltering from cold, drying winds. Hydrangeas like to be kept well watered but don’t like to be sitting in water logged soil.

Hydrangeas can also be used as cut flowers allowing you to enjoy them in your home and garden. When cutting to use in a vase, cut straight across the stem when removing from the plant. Then cut the flower stem at a sharp angle for displaying as this allows the plant to absorb more water in the vase.

Light Required Full sun

Watering Water regularly during dry weather, especially in the first year and when grown in containers.

Best Growing Conditions Due to their environmental conditions, blue and pink hydrangeas can change colour depending on the acidity level of the soil they are planted in.
