The Iresine Bloodleaf Purple, commonly known as Purple Lady Bloodleaf or Beefsteak Plant is a real live evergreen mini Indoor with deep purple foliage. Its year round leaves are a vivid dark purple with attractive contrasting bright pink veins. Native to the rainforest areas in Brazil, this can be grown indoors under glass and then moved outdoors during the Summer.
This Bloodleafs' vivid and attractive foliage makes it the perfect gift for any house plant enthusiasts, and if grown indoors as a houseplant, it can live up to five years.
Smaller plants tend to thrive in partial shade, but as they reach maturity they can tolerate more light. Ensure the soil is kept consistently moist in the growing season, but do not allow it to stay waterlogged. Plant in well draining soil and use a loamy, soil-based potting mixture.
Iresine houseplants should be repotted annually until it reaches its mature size. Blood leaf plants will produce small, pale green-white flowers, but they're not showy and most people elect to pinch off the buds, so that the plant can divert its energy into growing its colourful foliage.
