This deciduous shrub produces small white slightly scented flowers in late Spring and early Summer. The flowers are then followed by edible oblong shaped blue-black berries, similarly to a blueberry in look and taste. The berries can be eaten straight from the plant but can also be used in jams and jellies.

Honeyberries are ideally planted in pairs or in groups to help increase the rate of pollination or fruit production. Hand pollination is also useful to help increase fruit production.
