  • Brassica oleracea var. sabellica, known as Nero Di Toscana or Cavolo Nero, is a striking Italian kale with long, dark, crinkled leaves. A hardy biennial typically grown as an annual, producing leaves over a long period of time when picked regularly. It has a deeper, slightly sweeter flavour than curly kale, and it holds its texture well when cooked, making it perfect for soups, stews, and traditional Italian dishes. It’s also excellent simply sautéed with garlic and olive oil.

  • This is a hardy, reliable plant that keeps producing over a long season, especially through autumn and winter. Its tall, upright growth makes it a bold addition to the veg patch, and it’s just as happy in raised beds as it is in the ground.

    Watering Water regularly during establishment and leaf development; keep soil evenly moist.

    Best Growing Conditions Grow in a sunny, open position in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly during dry spells and feed if needed to encourage steady growth. Harvest outer leaves first, allowing the centre to continue producing.
