Pear Doyenne du Comice also known as Comice Pear is a lovely dessert pear that is widely regarded as one of the most flavoursome dessert varieties of pear available. It has a very juicy, buttery flavour and a wonderful melt-in-the-mouth texture and richness that other cultivars struggle to attain.
Doyenne du Comice trees have attractive, oval-shaped leaves, which are a glossy dark green colour, that turn vibrant shades of orange and red in the Autumn. The tree produces fragrant white flowers in the Spring, which are followed by small, greenish yellow pears that ripen to a golden yellow colour, often with a tinge of red, in the late Summer or early Autumn.
This variety is semi self-fertile and will require another pear tree nearby for pollination to produce fruit.
