  • Fritillaria persica, commonly known as Persian Lily, is a striking Spring-flowering perennial that produces tall flower spikes covered in bell-shaped blooms in rich shades of deep purple or burgundy. These elegant towers can reach heights of up to 1.2 metres and add dramatic structure and colour to borders, beds, or container displays. The blooms are particularly attractive to bees and other pollinators and become more impressive each year in UK gardens.

  • Plant Persian Lily bulbs during Autumn in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny or lightly shaded location. Space them approximately 15 cm apart and plant at a depth of three times the bulb height. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch to improve drainage and retain moisture. After flowering, remove faded blooms and allow foliage to die back naturally to feed the bulb for the following year. Hardy in the UK, these bulbs need minimal maintenance once established.

  • Ideal for mixed borders, wildlife-friendly gardens, and statement container displays, Fritillaria persica is particularly effective when planted in groups. It pairs beautifully with Spring bulbs like tulips and alliums, and complements ornamental grasses and perennials. These flowers can also be cut and enjoyed in indoor arrangements, adding a touch of sophistication to home décor.
