  • The lavender-blue tints of Gladiolus "Blue Isle" are cool and calm, which is a welcome respite from the summer heat. The soft blues and purples that make up each spike give the flowers a calming, almost otherworldly aspect in the garden.

  • This kind is wonderful for adding height and shape to mixed borders since its stems are sturdy and straight. Because of its serene hues, it looks wonderful in cottage gardens and pastel planting schemes.

  • "Blue Isle" flowers bloom in the middle to late summer. They have a beautiful wave of colour that fits well with both bold and subtle designs. The flowers on it add a nice, relaxing touch to indoor decorations.

Watering Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil around the bulbs. During active growth, water in prolonged dry spells so the soil stays lightly moist but never waterlogged. Once the foliage naturally dies back, reduce watering and allow the bulbs to rest more dryly.

Best Growing Conditions Plant in fertile loam in sun or partial shade. Choose a position that does not stay waterlogged in winter, as good drainage helps bulbs return reliably. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering so the bulb can store energy for the following season.

    Top tip

Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering so the bulb can store energy for the following season. Protect it from frost and consider moving container-grown plants to a sheltered, frost-free position for winter.
