  • White Primrose are hardy outdoor, low maintenance perennial bedding plants, botanically known as Primula. This classic variety produces crisp white blooms that bring a fresh, bright look to the garden during winter and early spring. Perfect for lifting borders and containers in the colder months, these compact plants grow to around 15-20cm tall and provide long-lasting seasonal colour in UK gardens.

  • Supplied as strong, ready-to-plant bedding plants, White Primrose are ideal for garden beds, edging, patio pots and window boxes. Their early flowers are a valuable source of nectar for bees and other pollinators when little else is in bloom. Once established, they are dependable perennials that will return year after year with very little effort.

  • Primroses thrive in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. They suit cottage gardens, spring displays and rockery planting schemes. For containers, use a quality multipurpose compost with added grit or perlite to improve drainage.

  • Plant genus Primula

Watering Water deeply after planting and keep the root zone consistently moist while the rose establishes. Once established, water thoroughly during dry spells, directing water to the base rather than over the foliage. Container-grown roses dry out faster and should be checked regularly in warm weather.

Best Growing Conditions Grow in sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained loam. Choose a position with good airflow and enough space for the plant to reach its mature size. Mulch after planting and keep the root zone free from prolonged waterlogging, particularly through winter.

    Top tip

Deadhead faded flowers through the season to keep the display tidy and encourage further blooms where the variety is repeat-flowering. Good drainage is especially important, so avoid leaving the roots sitting in persistently wet or compacted soil.
