Do you prefer a variety of indoor plants rather than just one? The Devil's Ivy Mixed Pothos Collection could be the choice that ticks all your boxes. It gives you four different trailing plants in one go. Just line them up on a shelf, and you'll have a dazzling display of varying leaves: bright lime Neon, silver-speckled Satin Silver, cream-splashed Happy Leaf and the classic gold-streaked Golden Pothos.

All four plants grow long, hanging stems, so they look good spilling over the edge of a bookcase, a high shelf or a hanging pot in UK homes. They grow fast once they're settled in and even forgive the occasional missed watering session. But the one thing that you cannot compromise on is light. Pothos plants can adapt to low or indirect light, but if they get too much shade, that is a problem.

In very low light, new leaves may develop less noticeable variegation, and the plants may grow more slowly or produce smaller leaves. To avoid this, place these plants in a room with an east or west-facing window, out of hot direct sun. They love that. Want more? Browse our other Pothos plants.

  • You get four varieties in every order: Neon, Satin Silver, Happy Leaf and Golden
  • All four plants have different leaf colours, namely lime, silver, cream and gold
  • They are all trailing plants with long stems that are perfect for shelves and hanging pots
  • These trailing plants can develop longer stems and fuller foliage over time when grown in suitable light and conditions.

Please note: the decorative pots shown in the images are for illustration only and are not included.

Watering Water when the top few centimetres of compost begin to dry, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Do not leave the plant sitting in standing water, as consistently wet roots can lead to rot. Growth slows in winter, so reduce watering frequency during cooler, darker months.

Best Growing Conditions Grow in bright, indirect light and protection from harsh direct sun, ideally at around 18-26°C, away from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes. Use a good-quality, well-drained houseplant compost and make sure excess water can drain freely from the pot. Most houseplants perform best with moderate humidity and should be kept away from strong radiator heat.

Which pothos varieties are in the collection?

You get four plants: Neon Golden with bright lime-green leaves, Satin Silver with dark leaves flecked in silver, Happy Leaf with green and cream patches and Golden Pothos with green leaves streaked in yellow. Each plant comes in a 10cm pot.

Why are my Pothos leaves losing their colour?

When Pothos leaves lose their colour, it usually happens due to low light. If you keep the plants in poor light, new leaves grow plainer and smaller, and the Satin Silver loses its silver touch. You can prevent this from happening by moving the plants nearer a bright window, out of the hot afternoon sun. Do that, and new growth should colour up again.

How do I grow new plants from cuttings?

Take a stem cutting with at least one node, which is the point where a leaf joins the stem. Cut just below the node and place the cutting in water, keeping the node submerged. Once roots develop and reach a few centimetres long, transfer it to well-draining compost. A cutting needs a node to produce new stems and leaves.

Can I keep Pothos around my cat or dog?

No, this collection is not pet-friendly. All four plants contain calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth if chewed or eaten. Ingestion may cause drooling, mouth discomfort and vomiting in cats and dogs. Keep the plants out of reach of pets and contact your vet if you suspect they have been eaten.

Can I grow pothos up a moss pole instead of trailing?

Yes. In the wild, Pothos climbs tree trunks, and it can often grow larger leaves as it climbs up a moss pole. Tie the stems loosely with soft plant ties and keep the moss slightly damp.

Top tip

Turn the pot a quarter turn every week or two so the plant develops evenly, and wipe broad leaves occasionally to keep them free of dust. Good drainage is especially important, so avoid leaving the roots sitting in persistently wet or compacted soil.
