Nordmann Fir Pot Grown Christmas Tree

Our best-selling Nordmann Fir Pot Grown Christmas Tree is a great sustainable choice this festive season. The Nordmann Fir keeps its needles longer than most trees, so it still looks full when the decorations come down. Botanically known as Abies nordmanniana, its soft, blunt needles are why it's the UK's favourite real Christmas tree.

Grown in a pot rather than cut, it can be decorated indoors, stood by your front door, or moved onto the patio. Once the festive season ends, move it back outdoors and repot it into a larger container to keep it growing, ready to come back next Christmas. Alternatively, it can be planted permanently in the garden.

Nordmann Fir Christmas Trees range from 2ft, suited to a tabletop display, up to 8ft for a large room or foyer, with 3ft to 6ft covering most front doors, hallways and living rooms. Across the available sizes, Nordmann Firs typically have the characteristic dense, conical shape and dark green colour across every size.

As this is a natural product, each tree is individual and may show some variation in shape, height and fullness.

 

Expert Care Tips

A few simple habits keep your potted Nordmann Fir healthy indoors over the festive period and ready to thrive once it's back outside.

  • Keep it in a cool, bright room, away from radiators, fires, and other direct heat
  • Water little and often so the compost stays moist but never waterlogged
  • Stand the pot on a tray or saucer to protect flooring from drips
  • Keep indoor time as short as practical to reduce stress on the tree
  • Acclimatise it to outdoor temperatures gradually over a few days before planting
  • Plant into a larger pot, or straight into the garden, in a sunny spot with moist but well-drained soil
  • Water well after planting and during dry spells through its first year outdoors

How do I care for a pot grown Nordmann Fir?

Water it little and often, and keep it away from radiators and other heat sources. Let it get used to indoor temperatures gradually when you bring it in, then reverse the process before moving it outside for good after Christmas.

Is a Nordmann Fir suitable for pets, children and the UK climate?

Nordmann Firs have soft, blunt needles, making them more comfortable to handle and decorate than Christmas trees with sharper foliage. As with any real Christmas tree, keep fallen needles and plant material away from children and pets and do not allow them to be eaten. Outdoors, Nordmann Fir is very hardy and is rated H7 by the RHS.

Can I plant my Nordmann Fir outside after Christmas?

Yes. Once the ground is not frozen, dig a hole roughly twice the width of the pot, loosen the roots, then backfill with soil and mulch. Water well and give it a feed again in spring.

Does the Nordmann Fir keep its needles well?

Yes, it is known for some of the best needle retention of any real Christmas tree in the UK. Keep the compost moist and the tree away from heat sources such as radiators, and needle drop should stay minimal through the festive season.
