Season of Interest

Spring to Autumn

  • The Alocasia macrorrhiza Stingray is a uniquely shaped tall growing, real house plant with bright green leaves that resemble the wings and the tail of its namesake the Stingray. This fast growing tropical Elephant Ear or Giant Taro indoor plant once mature it can reach a maximum height of 4.5 metres. NOTE: the decorative pot is not included, it will arrive in a 14cm plastic growing pot.

  • The Alocasia Stingray is a popular indoor plant for bringing a tropical jungle-like look to any room. With its exotic appearance it looks great in a bedroom, living room or as an office plant. Its distinctly dappled colouring to the stem adds further interest. This architectural indoor plant has air-purifying qualities that helps purify the air removing harmful toxins, providing a healthy and fresh environment.

Light Required

This Elephant Ear houseplant thrives best in well lit, bright conditions. Direct sunlight can lead to leaves becoming scorched. As this is a tropical plant it needs to be kept warm, ideally between 18-22°C, so a kitchen or bathroom is the ideal spot.

Watering

Alocasia Stingray’s do not like to dry out and should be watered regularly. The soil should be kept moist with warm water but not soaking. Give them a regular mist and a monthly feed in the growing months to keep them happy. Alocasia go through a dormant period in the Winter, their leaves will drop and the plant may die back. During this phase less water is required.

Best Growing Conditions

Alocasia do not like to grow in shaded conditions, if they receive too much lower light levels this can lead to the plant suffering.
