- The Biopytum sensitivum is a gorgeous miniature palm-like plant native to the wetland areas of India and Southeast Asia. Commonly known as a Little Tree Plant, this miniature tree will only grow to a height of 3 to 4 inches. When we say a mini tree, we definitely mean it.
- The name ‘sensitivum’ comes from the way the plant’s leaves fold downwards in response to touch and at night for protection.
A bright, indirect site is best for this plant, as shady environments can also lead to soil mould and slowed growth. Although the risk of sun-scorch is high with too much sunlight, a location that offers up to an hour of morning or evening sunlight is best.
The Little Tree is best kept in reliably moist soil as inconsistent moisture levels can result in stunted, unhappy growth. Allow the top third of soil to dry out in between waters during its growing period, reducing this slightly further in the Autumn and Winter.
This is a lovely feature plant for any terrarium. This moisture loving plant will happily grow under terrarium condition but can also grow on a shelf or display unit, adding a tropical jungle feel to any room.
