  • Dahlia ‘Orange Nugget’ injects a vivid burst of colour into the summer landscape, its cheerful orange flowers practically glowing against the backdrop of its deep, dark stems. This interplay of flower and foliage produces a captivating visual impact, making this particular variety a fantastic option for borders that demand attention. Even on the gloomiest of days, its vibrant orange hue brings a sense of warmth.

  • This dahlia is both compact and prolific, making it a perfect fit for smaller gardens or container arrangements, where its bold colouring can be fully appreciated. The dark stems also make it a popular choice for cutting, contributing depth and structure to mixed bouquets. This particular dahlia keeps on blooming, offering a vibrant show from the height of summer right through to the initial frost.

  • When it's time to plant, keep the tubers in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Don't use sealed containers; dahlias need air circulation while they're dormant. Once you put 'Orange Nugget' in the ground, and the soil warms up, it will take off, providing a lively burst of brilliant colour.

Watering Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil around the bulbs. During active growth, water in prolonged dry spells so the soil stays lightly moist but never waterlogged. Once the foliage naturally dies back, reduce watering and allow the bulbs to rest more dryly.

Best Growing Conditions Plant in fertile, well-drained loam in sun or partial shade. Choose a position that does not stay waterlogged in winter, as good drainage helps bulbs return reliably. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering so the bulb can store energy for the following season.

    Top tip

Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering so the bulb can store energy for the following season. In colder parts of the UK, give it a sheltered position and provide winter protection during prolonged frost.
