  • Darmera peltata, or Umbrella Plant, is one of those plants that really stands out once it gets going. Its large, round leaves sit high on tall stems, giving it that umbrella-like shape and adding a bold, slightly dramatic look around ponds or damp areas of the garden.

  • In early spring, before the leaves fully come through, it produces clusters of soft pink flowers on bare stems, which adds a nice bit of colour just as the garden is starting to wake up. It’s a great choice for pond edges, bog gardens or anywhere that stays reliably moist.

  • Once it’s settled in, it’s easy to look after and will come back each year without much fuss. It’s perfect if you want something a bit different that fills space nicely and adds both height and interest.
