  • Delosperma echinatum, the Pickle Plant, is a peculiar succulent prized for its plump, green leaves, which are adorned with fine, bristle-like hairs. This unique texture gives the plant its distinctive pickle-like look, instantly making it a focal point in any collection of houseplants or succulents. Its trailing or spreading growth habit brings a certain charm to pots, shelves, and those sun-drenched windowsills.

  • A plant that requires little care, it's well-suited for indoor environments, whether showcased on its own or mixed with other succulents to create visual interest. Delosperma echinatum's slow growth and compact form make it a good choice for smaller spaces and contemporary design schemes.

  • Please note: the decorative pot shown in the images is for illustration purposes only and is not included with the plant.

Watering Allow the compost to dry well between waterings, then water thoroughly and let all excess drain away. These plants cope better with being slightly dry than sitting in wet compost, so never leave the pot standing in water. Reduce watering significantly through the cooler, darker months.

Best Growing Conditions Grow in bright, indirect light, ideally at around 18-26°C, away from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes. Use well-drained soil and make sure excess water can drain freely from the pot. Most houseplants perform best with moderate humidity and should be kept away from strong radiator heat.

    Top tip

Turn the pot a quarter turn every week or two so the plant develops evenly, and wipe broad leaves occasionally to keep them free of dust. Good drainage is especially important, so avoid leaving the roots sitting in persistently wet or compacted soil.
