- The Adenium obesum commonly known as Desert Rose, is a real live slow growing, shrubby perennial succulent. This rare flowering mini houseplant in a 6cm pot has stunning green glossy leaves and produces vibrant pinkish red flowers. When mature it can grow up to a height of 90cm. Due to its origins in Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, it needs to be grown under glass all year in the UK.
- This makes a popular choice for bonsai due to its swollen caudex, which stores water. Care is straightforward and low maintenance due to it requiring no pruning and being generally disease free, making it the perfect gift for any house plant enthusiasts including complete beginners.
- For best results, grow Adenium obesum indoors, under glass, all year keeping it at a temperature of between 15°C and 32°C. This Indoor prefers warmer temperatures. Provide a container with well draining soil with added sand to boost drainage. Grow in full sun, but provide shade from the hottest Summer sun.
- Repot every three to four years in the Spring, using a Cactus & Succulent potting mix, or mix your soil with the more sand. In order to keep it flowering, keep your Adenium pot bound to restrict the root system.
