  • Fritillaria Uva-Vulpis, also known as Fox’s Head Fritillary, is a compact spring-flowering bulb with graceful, nodding bell-shaped blooms in rich shades of deep purple edged with yellow. These distinctive blooms appear in mid to late Spring and grow to a height of around 30-40 cm. A subtle and elegant choice for gardeners seeking something different, these charming flowers are loved by pollinators and bring a naturalistic look to borders and mixed planting schemes.

  • Plant Fritillaria Uva-Vulpis bulbs in well-drained, fertile soil between Autumn and early Winter. Space them approximately 10cm apart and plant at a depth three times the height of the bulb, ideally in full sun or partial shade. After planting, water thoroughly and consider adding mulch or compost to aid moisture retention and drainage. These bulbs are hardy in the UK and will return each spring with little care. Avoid overly wet conditions during dormancy.

  • Ideal for beds, borders, naturalised areas, and woodland-style gardens. These Fritillaria bulbs also perform well in containers or under deciduous trees where spring light is plentiful. Their slim stems and fine foliage pair well with other spring bulbs or low-growing perennials. For impact, plant in small drifts or clusters and create beautiful indoor floral arrangements when cut.

    Watering Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil around the bulbs. During active growth, water in prolonged dry spells so the soil stays lightly moist but never waterlogged. Once the foliage naturally dies back, reduce watering and allow the bulbs to rest more dryly.

    Best Growing Conditions Plant in fertile loam in sun or partial shade. Choose a position that does not stay waterlogged in winter, as good drainage helps bulbs return reliably. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering so the bulb can store energy for the following season.
