Watering Water regularly while the plant is establishing, then allow the upper soil to dry slightly between waterings. Established Mediterranean herbs prefer free-draining conditions and generally need less water than leafy crops. Container-grown plants will still need checking frequently during warm, dry weather.

Best Growing Conditions Grow in sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained loam. A warm, open position with good airflow encourages compact, aromatic growth and helps the soil dry between waterings. Avoid heavy, persistently wet ground, especially through winter.

Top tip

Deadhead faded flowers through the season to keep the display tidy and encourage further blooms where the variety is repeat-flowering. Good drainage is especially important, so avoid leaving the roots sitting in persistently wet or compacted soil.
