Best Growing Conditions Hyacinth are frost hardy. Plant bulbs in autumn 15cm deep and spaced 10cm apart. If you are using containers, bulbs can be placed closer. Keep the soil moist during the growing season. Forced or prepared bulbs are often treated as annuals but can be planted out and revert to their normal flowering time after 1-2 years. Allow the foliage to die back naturally, giving the bulb time to fatten up for the following year.
