  • Hydrangea Hot Chocolate is a bushy deciduous shrub with chocolate-toned foliage and large pink-red mophead flowers. Adds bold colour and contrast to beds, borders, and patio containers from Summer through to early Autumn.

  • Compact yet impactful, this flowering shrub is ideal for growing in patio pots, raised beds, or at the front of mixed borders where space is limited. Its bold foliage and flower contrast make it an excellent specimen shrub or part of a coordinated colour display.

  • Pollinator friendly - Its vibrant blooms attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it a valuable choice for wildlife gardens and eco-conscious planting schemes.
  • Hardy & easy to grow - Hardy and reliable, Hydrangea Hot Chocolate performs well in most UK gardens. Prefers a sheltered spot with moist but well-drained soil in dappled sunlight or morning sun and afternoon shade.

Watering Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during warm weather and while the plant is flowering. Water deeply at the base and avoid allowing the root ball to dry out completely. Container-grown plants may need frequent watering in summer, but the compost should still drain freely.

Best Growing Conditions Grow in sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained loam. Choose a position with good airflow and enough space for the plant to reach its mature size. Mulch after planting and keep the root zone free from prolonged waterlogging, particularly through winter.

    Top tip

Remove damaged or spent growth as it appears and keep the area around the plant free from weeds so air and light can reach the base. Good drainage is especially important, so avoid leaving the roots sitting in persistently wet or compacted soil.
