  • This hydroponic plant just fits nicely into any space without much effort. Set in a 10cm clear glass tube, it lets you see the roots as well as the leaves, which gives it a clean, slightly different look compared to a regular potted plant. It works really well on a desk, shelf or even as a small centrepiece.

  • The built-in LED light adds a gentle glow, which is especially nice in the evening. It’s not harsh or bright, just enough to give the plant a bit of presence and create a relaxed feel in the room.

    Watering Water when the top few centimetres of compost begin to dry, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Do not leave the plant sitting in standing water, as consistently wet roots can lead to rot. Growth slows in winter, so reduce watering frequency during cooler, darker months.

    Best Growing Conditions Grow in bright, indirect light and protection from harsh direct sun, ideally at around 18-26°C, away from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes. Use a suitable, free-draining growing medium and make sure excess water can drain freely from the pot. Most houseplants perform best with moderate humidity and should be kept away from strong radiator heat.

    Top tip

    Turn the pot a quarter turn every week or two so the plant develops evenly, and wipe broad leaves occasionally to keep them free of dust. Check the plant regularly during its first season and respond to changes in growth rather than watering or feeding automatically.
