  • Jasmine Nudiflorum, commonly known as Winter Jasmine, is a wonderful plant for bringing colour into the garden during the coldest months. It produces bright yellow flowers on bare stems from winter into early spring, creating a cheerful display when most plants are still dormant.

  • This easy to grow shrub can be trained against walls and fences, where it will gently scramble and soften hard surfaces, or it can be allowed to cascade naturally over banks. It is especially useful for brightening dull corners and adding seasonal interest to borders and wildlife-friendly planting schemes.

  • Grow in full sun to partial shade in well drained soil for best flowering. Tie in stems to supports if training up a wall, or let it spread naturally for ground cover. Prune straight after flowering to keep the plant tidy and encourage fresh growth for next season’s blooms.

  • Plant genus Jasminum

Watering Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil evenly moist while the plant establishes. Once established, water during prolonged dry periods rather than little and often, allowing the soil to drain between waterings. Container-grown plants should be checked more frequently in warm or windy weather.

Best Growing Conditions Grow in sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained loam. Choose a position with good airflow and enough space for the plant to reach its mature size. Mulch after planting and keep the root zone free from prolonged waterlogging, particularly through winter.

    Top tip

Tie new growth loosely onto its support while stems are young, checking ties regularly so they do not cut into expanding shoots. Good drainage is especially important, so avoid leaving the roots sitting in persistently wet or compacted soil.
