  • Lobelia Compact White is a great choice if you want a neat, tidy splash of fresh colour. The small white flowers appear in abundance, creating a bright, clean look that works really well in beds, borders and containers without taking over the space. Unlike trailing varieties, this one has a more compact, mound-forming shape, so it stays nice and contained while still giving you a full display. It’s perfect for edging borders, filling gaps or adding a lighter touch to mixed planting. Once it gets going, it will keep flowering right through the summer, so you get a long-lasting display with very little effort. It’s easy to grow and a reliable option if you want something simple and low maintenance.

Watering Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil evenly moist while the plant establishes. Once established, water during prolonged dry periods rather than little and often, allowing the soil to drain between waterings. Container-grown plants should be checked more frequently in warm or windy weather.

Best Growing Conditions Grow in partial shade to gentle sun in fertile, well-drained loam. Choose a position with good airflow and enough space for the plant to reach its mature size. Protect from hard frost and cold, drying winds, especially while young or when grown in containers.

    Top tip

Remove faded flowers regularly to keep the plant tidy and encourage the longest possible flowering display. In colder parts of the UK, give it a sheltered position and provide winter protection during prolonged frost.
