- Muscari armeniacum is a Spring flowering perennial that produces cone shaped spikes of tiny mid blue flowers in April and May loved by pollinating insects, in particular bees and butterflies. These grape hyacinths can grow to between 15 and 20 cm in height during the months of March and April. When planted en masse, they create a carpet of colour wherever planted and come back better each year in UK gardens.
- These bulbs are great for growing in flower beds, garden borders or in patio pots. They are also ideal for growing in woodland gardens or rock gardens in particular around the base of deciduous trees or shrubs. They do particularly well when planted with other Spring flowering bulbs in particular yellow daffodils. Muscari can also be used as cut flowers allowing you to enjoy them in your home and garden.
- If you are not ready to plant bulbs now, then store them in a cool, dry, frost free, well ventilated location. A garage, shed, loft or cupboard are ideal. Open the paper bag to allow air to circulate round but leave the bulbs in their bags until ready to plant. Just make sure mice or other rodents can’t get access to them. Keep an eye on your bulbs while in storage, if they are showing signs of going soft, it's best to get them planted before they deteriorate any further.

Watering Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil around the bulbs. During active growth, water in prolonged dry spells so the soil stays lightly moist but never waterlogged. Once the foliage naturally dies back, reduce watering and allow the bulbs to rest more dryly.
Best Growing Conditions Plant in fertile loam in partial shade to gentle sun. Choose a position that does not stay waterlogged in winter, as good drainage helps bulbs return reliably. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering so the bulb can store energy for the following season.
