  • Onion ‘Ailsa Craig’ is a well-known, much-loved variety famous for its large, globe-shaped bulbs and mild, slightly sweet flavour. It’s the sort of onion that’s perfect sliced into salads or used fresh, as it’s not too sharp or overpowering. When grown well, it can produce impressively sized onions that are always satisfying to lift from the soil.

  • This variety has been grown in the UK for generations and is popular with home gardeners because it’s straightforward and reliable. It’s best enjoyed fresh, as it doesn’t store as long as some stronger varieties, but the flavour makes it well worth growing.

    • Light Required Full sun

    Watering Water regularly during establishment and bulb formation; reduce watering as bulbs mature.

    Best Growing Conditions Plant in a sunny position in fertile, well-drained soil. Keep the area weed-free and water during dry spells, especially while bulbs are swelling. Allow foliage to die back naturally before lifting and drying the onions in a warm, airy place.
