  • Bright Autumn Winter Colour: This type of plant develops a lot of brilliant berries in varying shades of pink, which keeps the season exciting long after most plants have perished. Great for pots, borders, and decorations all winter long.

  • This little, resilient shrub stays green all year long, providing structure and colour to every season. Good for UK gardens and highly reliable when it's chilly.

  • Pernettya plants are naturally tiny and have a tidy, bushy habit, so they are great for compact areas and pots. They are wonderful for mixed beds, patio pots, and planters at the front entrance since they add texture and a gorgeous berry colour with minimal maintenance.

Watering Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil evenly moist while the plant establishes. Once established, water during prolonged dry periods rather than little and often, allowing the soil to drain between waterings. Container-grown plants should be checked more frequently in warm or windy weather.

Best Growing Conditions Grow in sun or partial shade in acidic, well-drained ericaceous soil or compost. Choose a position with good airflow and enough space for the plant to reach its mature size. Mulch after planting and keep the root zone free from prolonged waterlogging, particularly through winter.

    Top tip

Remove damaged or spent growth as it appears and keep the area around the plant free from weeds so air and light can reach the base. Good drainage is especially important, so avoid leaving the roots sitting in persistently wet or compacted soil.
