The Picea Glauca Conica is a dwarf evergreen conifer with a naturally neat, cone-shaped habit that needs no clipping to hold its form. It carries the RHS Award of Garden Merit and has an RHS H7 hardiness rating, meaning it can cope with temperatures below -20°C when grown outdoors.

Sold as a mini Christmas tree, this dwarf Alberta Spruce suits smaller spaces such as a bedroom, kitchen, office desk or hallway table. A few things worth knowing before you buy:

  • It is a genuine living tree, not a cut one.
  • Once the festive season ends you can move it outside into a border or keep it going in its pot, rather than throwing it out afterwards.
  • New spring growth comes through brighter than the older needles, which is normal for this variety.
  • Growth is slow, so a young pot grown tree keeps its compact size for years before it needs a bigger pot or a spot in the garden.

As this is a natural product, each tree is individual and may show some variation in shape, colour or size compared to the photos.

Is it easy to care for as a first Christmas tree?

Yes, this Dwarf Alberta Spruce is a good option for a first living Christmas tree. It needs a bright spot, regular watering and only a short stay indoors over Christmas.

How long can I keep it indoors as a Christmas tree?

Try to keep it indoors for no more than around two weeks. Warm, dry indoor air can cause the tree to lose moisture, so move it to a cooler spot and gradually back outdoors once the festive display is over.

How tall does Picea Glauca Conica grow?

Growth is slow, typically 4 to 10cm a year. Left to grow undisturbed over many years in the garden, mature specimens can eventually reach around 250cm tall with a spread of roughly 150cm.

Does it need feeding?

It shouldn't need regular feeding while it's young. Once established outdoors in a larger pot or border, a suitable conifer feed can be applied in spring if needed.

Is Picea Glauca Conica pet friendly?

The needles can be sharp and may cause irritation if chewed, so it's best to keep the tree out of reach of pets and discourage them from eating any part of it.
