The Polypodium vulgare is a low growing evergreen hardy fern with long, deep cut leathery dark green fronds. Each frond has a slight sheen and an attractive, lacy appearance. Native to Great Britain, this fern is ideal for growing on wall banks where there is little soil or in rockeries.
This hardy fern makes an excellent addition to any patio planting arrangement or for the centre of a hanging basket. It complements other cool tolerant plants such as Primroses, Pansy, Viola during the Spring/Summer months or Mini Cyclamen in the Autumn.
Once finished in a container it can be then planted into a garden for more years of enjoyment.

Best Growing Conditions
The Common Polypody thrives in shady damp conditions in humus-rich slightly acidic soil. To extend its growth, remove old fronds in the Spring after the last frost - this will allow the new growth to uncurl.
