  • The Harlem poppy, produces large saucer-shaped burgundy-pink flowers with a dark purple centre and black blotches at the base, above silvery green foliage. This gorgeous Oriental poppy will light up your borders in late Spring and early Summer. As well as adding amazing colour to your home, when used as a cut flower.

  • These clump forming perennial plants create neat rosettes of deeply-cut leaves covered with coarse hairs, bringing fabulous texture to borders before the blooms appear. Once established they can grow to a height of 40cm, and will bring pollinating insects to your garden.

Watering Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil evenly moist while the plant establishes. Once established, water during prolonged dry periods rather than little and often, allowing the soil to drain between waterings. Container-grown plants should be checked more frequently in warm or windy weather.

Best Growing Conditions Grow in sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained loam. Choose a position with good airflow and enough space for the plant to reach its mature size. Mulch after planting and keep the root zone free from prolonged waterlogging, particularly through winter.

    Top tip

Remove damaged or spent growth as it appears and keep the area around the plant free from weeds so air and light can reach the base. Good drainage is especially important, so avoid leaving the roots sitting in persistently wet or compacted soil.
