- Salix babylonica ‘Tortuosa’ commonly known as the Contorted Willow or Dragon’s Claw Willow, is a fast-growing medium-sized deciduous tree with an upright growing habit. It produces narrow, very twisted branches, twigs and leaves and small yellow catkins in Spring. Its leaves are lanceolate in shape, bright green on top and greyish green underneath. Each leaf measures about 7-14 cm in length and has a finely serrated edge.
- After blossoming this plant can be pruned and its stems used to make impressive flower arrangements. Dragon’s Claw Willow is a flower arranger’s dream.
This corkscrew hazel is ideal for the middle of a sunny border or large container and appreciates both sun and the shade, it also copes well with any type of soil.
Moderate watering
This plant is best grown in full sunlight in well draining soil but is also an ideal choice for a damp site where winter interest is required. The ‘Tortuosa’ is winter hardy down to -25.
