• The Sambucus Black Lace commonly known as Elderberry is a deciduous shrub that produces striking deep purple, almost black foliage and pink flushed blooms during the Summer. These flowers are then followed by red-black elderberries. In Autumn the leaves turn a rich red colour which will add interest to any planting scheme.

• Black Lace Sambucus likes to grow in moist but well draining soil, but can tolerate waterlogged, slightly chalky ground. For the best foliage colour, this plant prefers to grow in full sun - otherwise the foliage can turn a greenish-bronze which is also very attractive.

Watering Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil evenly moist while the plant establishes. Once established, water during prolonged dry periods rather than little and often, allowing the soil to drain between waterings. Container-grown plants should be checked more frequently in warm or windy weather.

Best Growing Conditions Grow in partial shade to gentle sun in fertile, well-drained loam. Choose a position with good airflow and enough space for the plant to reach its mature size. Mulch after planting and keep the root zone free from prolonged waterlogging, particularly through winter.
