- Scilla, also known as Squill, is a charming early Spring flowering bulb that produces clusters of star shaped flowers in shades of blue, white, or pink which are similar to bluebells. These hardy perennials form low growing clumps and are perfect for bringing a soft splash of colour to the garden when few other plants are in bloom. Scilla flowers are particularly attractive to early pollinators.
- Plant scilla bulbs in Autumn in well drained, moderately fertile soil, ideally in partial shade or dappled sunlight. Place the bulbs approximately 8-10 cm deep and around 8cm apart. Water well after planting, and consider applying mulch to help retain moisture and improve soil structure. Once established, they require minimal maintenance and will return year after year.
- Ideal for flower beds, under deciduous trees, rockeries, and naturalised areas such as grassy banks or shaded borders. Scilla also performs well in patio pots or containers and makes an excellent companion plant to spring bulbs like crocus, snowdrops, hyacinth and muscari. Plant in groups or drifts for maximum impact.
