Harvest your own tasty apples at home with our Small Apple Trees (Malus). These young fruit trees are perfect for smaller gardens, patios and container growing. A great way to start your own home grown fruit collection without the need for a large amount of space. Select from popular Braeburn and Gala apple trees. Braeburn is a crisp, juicy apple with a sweet but slightly sharp flavor. Gala is wonderfully sweet and aromatic, ideal for eating fresh. Plant your Malus apple tree in a protected sunny spot in fertile, well-drained soil. If grown in a container, move it to a bigger pot as it grows and water it regularly during the growing season.

Hardy, rewarding and suitable for gardeners of all experience levels, these small apple trees are ideal for patios, gardens and growing your own fruit at home. With a little patience and care, you can look forward to beautiful spring blossom followed by your very own apple harvest.

Watering Keep the soil consistently moist while the crop is establishing and growing, especially during flowering, fruiting or rapid leafy growth. Water deeply at the base rather than little and often, allowing excess water to drain away. Plants in containers, grow bags or greenhouses may need daily checks during warm weather.

Best Growing Conditions Grow in sun or partial shade in fertile loam, enriched with organic matter where appropriate. Choose an open position with good airflow and enough space for the crop to mature without excessive competition. Protect tender crops from late frost and cold winds, and use greenhouse or sheltered growing conditions where the variety requires extra warmth.

Top tip

Keep a weed-free circle around the base while the plant establishes and mulch annually, leaving a small gap around the stem or trunk. It works particularly well in an allotment setting; give it enough space and light to develop naturally rather than crowding it.
