  • Mushroom compost itself is not a suitable replacement for soil. While it works quite well for growing mushrooms, it isnt as good for other plants. A good mix of 25% spent mushroom compost to 75% soil is a good ratio to start out with for container use, and you can fine-tune it from there.

  • Spent Mushroom Compost - A blend of composted agricultural straw and animal manure with added lime that has been used to grow mushrooms. Once the farm has grown its crop of mushrooms with the compost it is then steam sterilised to ensure that the product is free from mushroom spores and weeds.

  • Mushroom compost is a quality, economical soil conditioner. It improves the structure of heavy clay soils improving drainage and adds humus, nutrients to thin sandy soils. Mushroom compost is excellent on the vegetable garden (Brasicas do especially well).

  • Suitable for: Mulching (as recommended by Monty Don - reduces weed growth, holds moisture and improves fertility) Soil Conditioning Vegetable Growing Tree and Shrub Planting

  • Benefits: Steam Sterilised, Promotes strong root development, Improves soil structure, Breaks up heavy soils, Improves moisture retention around root systems and Increases soil nutrition

  • Gives plants triple the goodness - ideal for Seedlings, Containers, Fruit & Veg and Herbs.

  • Blended into soil, mushroom compost provides a readily-available source of organic material, which retains water and help to amend clay-like soils over time. However, it shouldnt be used to replace your standard compost. It can actually hold too much water for your soil, and can become waterlogged and problematic to plants.
