Spring

  • Ipheion uniflorum, also known as Spring Starflower, is a charming clump forming perennial that produces masses of star shaped flowers in shades of pale blue to soft violet from early to mid Spring. These fragrant blooms are known to grow like bluebells, rising above slender grass like foliage and attracting pollinators. Growing to a height of around 20cm, they provide early colour in beds, borders, and rock gardens.

  • Plant Ipheion bulbs from autumn to early winter in fertile, well draining soil. Choose a sunny or partially shaded position, spacing the bulbs around 8-10cm apart and planting them at a depth of 5-8cm. Water well after planting and apply a light mulch to retain moisture and improve drainage. Once flowering finishes, allow foliage to die back naturally to help store energy for the next season. Ipheion is fully hardy in most UK gardens and will naturalise over time with minimal maintenance.

  • Ideal for growing in rockeries, borders, alpine beds, and even containers. Spring Starflowers thrive in a wide range of settings and can be planted en masse for a beautiful, soft hued display. They pair well with other early spring flowers such as crocus, anemone, muscari and hyacinth. Ipheion also makes a lovely cut flower, bringing its sweet scent indoors.
