  • Sweetcorn is a fun and tasty crop to cultivate at home. The cobs are crisp and juicy, and they taste much better when they are fresh. The greatest time to eat homegrown sweetcorn is just off the plant, when the sugars are at their highest. You can eat it raw, cooked, or grilled. It's a classic for family meals and picnics in the summer.

  • This plant grows tall and looks great in a vegetable garden or on an allotment. It's better to plant sweetcorn in blocks than in single rows. This helps with wind pollination and makes the cobs grow better. It's easy and fun to grow if you have some room and sunlight.

  • Light Required Full sun

Watering Water regularly during growth and cob development; keep soil evenly moist, especially in dry weather.

Best Growing Conditions Grow in a sunny, sheltered position in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly, particularly during dry spells and when cobs are forming. Harvest cobs when the silks turn brown and the kernels release a milky juice when pressed.
