Create a spring display with our Tree Peony, a long-lived deciduous shrub prized for its large flowers and divided foliage. Unlike herbaceous peonies, its woody stems remain above ground through winter, developing into a garden feature.

Supplied in a 9cm pot, this Paeonia plant is available in White, Purple, Red, Yellow, Pink or Lavender. The bowl-shaped blooms appear from late spring into early summer, adding colour to borders, cottage gardens and sheltered courtyards.

Plant your Tree Peony in a sunny or lightly shaded position, protected from strong winds. Choose deep, fertile, well-drained soil and water regularly during its first growing season while the roots establish. Apply a layer of garden compost around the base each spring, keeping it away from the stems.

Tree peonies need little pruning. Remove dead shoots in late winter and faded flowers after blooming. Once settled, this hardy flowering shrub can reward your garden for decades.

Light Required These plants require at least six hours of daylight. They are best positioned in a sunny sheltered spot in a border or container.

Watering Water regularly in dry spells during the first year to aid establishment, especially if planted in spring or later in the season. Established tree peonies are deep-rooted and after the first year should not need routine watering.

Best Growing Conditions Like the herbaceous peony flowers, tree peonies do not like to be transplanted. So find a suitable home in which to establish them when planting, and consider it their permanent home. Tree peonies are very slow-growers and may take three years before new plants fully establish and begin to flower. Once established, they are long-lived and need little maintenance.
