Watering Water when the top few centimetres of compost begin to dry, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Do not leave the plant sitting in standing water, as consistently wet roots can lead to rot. Growth slows in winter, so reduce watering frequency during cooler, darker months.

Best Growing Conditions Grow in bright, indirect light and protection from harsh direct sun, ideally at around 18-26°C, away from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes. Use a good-quality, well-drained houseplant compost and make sure excess water can drain freely from the pot. Most houseplants perform best with moderate humidity and should be kept away from strong radiator heat.

Which plants are in the Indoor Plant Colour Collection?

You receive three plants: a Philodendron Pink Princess, an Aglaonema Cherry Baby, and an Iresine Herbstii 'Rich Redstar'. Each plant is also sold on its own if you want more of one.

How do I care for the Indoor Plant Colour Collection?

Keep all three plants somewhere warm with plenty of good natural light, protected from harsh midday sun. Their watering requirements differ slightly, so check each plant rather than watering the whole collection on the same schedule. Allow some drying between waterings for the Philodendron and Aglaonema, while the Iresine prefers its compost to remain more consistently moist during active growth.

Can I keep all three plants in the same room?

Yes. All three can be grown together in a warm, bright room, although their exact positioning can be adjusted to suit each plant. The Iresine benefits from particularly good light to support its richly coloured foliage, while the Pink Princess and Aglaonema prefer bright, filtered or indirect light.

Are the plants in this collection safe for cats and dogs?

This collection should be kept out of reach of pets. RHS guidance for Philodendron warns that its sap can irritate skin and that plants should be kept away from pets and children, while RHS classifies Aglaonema as harmful if eaten by pets and a skin and eye irritant. We therefore wouldn't describe this collection as pet friendly.

How can I help the plants keep their colourful foliage?

Give the collection plenty of suitable light without exposing the foliage to harsh midday sun. The Pink Princess naturally produces leaves with different amounts of variegation, so some will be greener or pinker than others. The Iresine benefits from particularly good light to maintain strong foliage colour. RHS recommends full light with protection from hot sun for Iresine herbstii grown under glass.

Is the Indoor Plant Colour Collection suitable as a gift?

Yes. The collection brings three contrasting foliage plants together in one order, making it a colourful option for a new home or someone who enjoys houseplants. Please note that the decorative pots shown in the images aren't included

Top tip

Turn the pot a quarter turn every week or two so the plant develops evenly, and wipe broad leaves occasionally to keep them free of dust. Good drainage is especially important, so avoid leaving the roots sitting in persistently wet or compacted soil.
