This Fraser Fir Pot Grown Christmas Tree is known first for its scent: a fresh, citrus-edged fragrance that's stronger than the milder scent of a Nordmann Fir. Native to the Appalachian Mountains in the south-eastern United States, the Fraser fir (Abies fraseri) has been chosen as the official White House Christmas tree more often than any other variety. In the UK, it's mostly grown on higher, cooler ground, making it a Scottish favourite.

The needles are soft and flattened, with a silvery underside, sitting on branches strong enough to hold a full set of decorations. Being pot grown, this real Christmas tree arrives with its roots intact, so it can come indoors for the festive period, then move back outside and be replanted.

Please note that the pot is for illustrative purposes only. You will receive your tree in a black growing pot. We recommend planting it in a larger pot than the one you will receive after Christmas so that the tree can grow.

As this is a natural product, each tree is individual and may show variation in shape, height and exact colour. The silvery tone in the foliage is often more subtle in person than it looks in photos, particularly indoors under artificial light.

Expert Care Tips

Fraser Fir Christmas trees are low maintenance, but a few small habits make a real difference to how well it holds its needles and colour.

• Water regularly, keeping the compost moist but never waterlogged. Check it regularly while indoors, since central heating dries compost out faster than the tree can show it.
• Position away from radiators, fires and other direct heat sources, which cause needles to dry out and drop faster.
• Keep indoors for no longer than the festive period. Two to three weeks indoors is a sensible guide before it needs to go back outside.
• Acclimatise gradually in both directions. Give it a few cooler days indoors before bringing it in from the cold, and the same in reverse before moving it back outside.
• After Christmas, move it back outdoors and repot into a larger container as needed, or plant it permanently in the garden when the ground is not frozen or waterlogged.
• Once planted outdoors, keep it watered during dry periods while it establishes. A light feed can be applied in spring if needed.
