The Serbian Spruce Christmas tree (Picea omorika) is one of the narrowest conifers you can choose, which makes it a genuinely practical option for flats, hallways, or any spot where a full-width Nordmann Fir or Norway Spruce simply won't fit. This potted tree isn't grown in a container from a seedling. It's lifted from the ground with its roots intact and settled into a pot, so once the season's over you can plant it out in the garden.
Native to Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, this spruce is a close relative of the Norway Spruce but has a much slimmer shape and softer-feeling foliage. The needles show the classic two-tone look: dark green on top with a silvery-white band underneath, giving the branches a frosted appearance even before you add lights.
At 85 to 105cm tall, this size sits comfortably on a table, sideboard, or windowsill.
Note: the pot shown in photos is for illustration only. You'll receive your tree in a black growing pot.
As this is a natural product, each tree is individual and may show some variation in shape, colour, and height.
Serbian Spruce Christmas trees are low maintenance, but a few small habits make a real difference to how well it holds its needles and colour.

Keep it in a cool, bright room, away from radiators and fires. Water little and often so the compost stays moist but not waterlogged, and stand the pot on a saucer to catch any drips.
Yes. Its narrow, upright shape is one of the slimmest among spruce varieties, so it takes up far less floor space than a bushier tree like a Nordmann Fir or Norway Spruce.
Left to grow outdoors, a mature Serbian Spruce can eventually reach well over 12 metres, though this takes many years. Its naturally narrow shape means it takes up less space than many other large conifers, but its eventual height should still be considered when choosing where to plant it.
Serbian Spruce (Picea omorika) is native to a small area in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the Balkans. It was introduced to UK gardens in the 1880s and has been popular ever since for its slender, distinctive form.
Yes. Once established outdoors, it's fairly low maintenance and tolerates a range of soil conditions, including alkaline soil. Indoors over Christmas, it just needs a cool spot and regular watering to stay healthy.
